The Wine Cellar
We have a real wine cellar. In Europe it is not so uncommon to find a subterranean wine cellar under someone’s home, but in the US these are rare. Many houses claim to have a wine cellar but what they actually have is a room with an air conditioning unit. Our cellar is fully subterranean. Leading down into the cellar is an amazing and very wide totally custom made mahogany staircase.
The cellar can hold up to 5,000 bottles of wine and we have most of it full with collectable fine wines. We also hold 300 gallons in our French oak barrels. In the cabinetry are the more sinful wines such as Opus One 1998 and Casa Ferreirihha1999. Our wine list shows off our collection of fine wines from around the world.
There are many custom items in the cellar such as the special table and stools that are actually made out of old wine barrels, the beautiful tile and the stucco wall work. Although not for guests use or consumption the wine cellar speaks to the character of the home.
Above the cellar we built a small but very well equipped personal winery. We bring in grapes from Napa, and other places in the USA. The best of the very best available are broth to us across the country by express refrigerated trucks. We make Cabernet blends. If we were in Bordeaux France our wines would be Bordeaux but because we are not they simply called a Cabernet blend in the Bordeaux style.
Our wines stand up against the best wines from anywhere. We have even had blind tastings against Opus One and our wine was picked the best. There is wonderful wine country in the Hudson Valley but you don’t need to leave our home to be in wine country.
